The day that I quit my job, wasn’t planned.
I didn’t wake up that morning and say “I think today is a good day to quit my job.”
I was living my dream and had the perfect career.
And that’s when I failed.
I failed at being a wife. I failed at being a mom. I failed being there for my family.
…I remember the day I quit my job
Growing up, all I ever wanted to be was a police officer and follow in my dad’s footsteps. And while, that’s not how things turned out, I had an amazing 21 year career in public safety.
It was the best.decision.ever.
….until it wasn’t…
Is there ever really a good time to quit your job? How about quitting your job as an essential employee in the middle of a pandemic?
Yep, I did it.
Join me over the next few days for some real talk…a little bit about me, my background, the career that I walked away from, and what I’m up to now.
#tbt to January 9, 2018 – Fire Guy and I met for dinner at Jack in the Box. We arrived separately, he in his Fire Chief’s SUV and me in my car. We had only been seeing each other for a month and half and decided to meet for a quick bite to eat.
As I was enjoying my spicy chicken sandwich and monster tacos (don’t judge), his pager started rattling and just like that….our dinner date was cut short.
His meal was half-eaten, I was still eating my sandwich, and off he went.
The reality is, some of our meals get interrupted by his job. Unlike a paid firefighter who works scheduled shifts at the fire station, Fire Guy is on call 24/7 and is expected to respond to emergency calls at a moment’s notice. This makes it hard to plan dinner dates and family time.
….the upside to interrupted dinner….he leaves his meal behind….and *sometimes* I get to eat both my meal and his 🙂
Everyone loves a man in uniform…law enforcement, military, and firefighters.
Growing up with my dad as a police officer, I swore that I would never date a police officer or a firefighter. Fast forward through my first marriage, 3 kids, and a divorce, here I am married to not only a firefighter, but the Fire Chief of our town’s fire protection district.
I’m starting this blog as a glimpse into our lives…the good, the bad, the ups and the downs of shift work, life in public safety…my life with Fire Guy.
